US Open Golf Betting Tips: Seven Selections For Major Test At Brutal Oakmont

Major season continues at this week’s US Open where a brutal challenge awaits the world’s best players.
Scottie Scheffler is the 14/5 favourite with golf betting sites to make it back-to-back major triumphs following his success at the USPGA Championship, but Rory McIlroy is friendless at 14/1.
McIlroy struggled with his new driver at last week’s Canadian Open where he missed the cut on nine over par – the worst 36-hole finish of his career – which left us red-faced.
Sam Burns should have made amends though when he missed from five feet to win the Canadian Open at 28/1 against Ryan Fox, who only made the play-off courtesy of a 17-foot birdie putt.
Oakmont, which hosts this week’s US Open for the first time since 2016, is not the place to be for players wayward off the tee like McIlroy at TPC Toronto, especially with so many sand bunkers dotted around this par-70 lay-out measuring 7,372 yards.
The thick rough is a uniform five inches deep wherever you miss the fairway, so straight hitting is essential and finding the lightning-fast greens will also be a big help.
The course underwent a major renovation by Gil Hanse a couple of years ago when the greens were enlarged, but that won’t make it any easier as they will be running as fast as 15 on the stimpmeter by Thursday.
The winning total is expected to be close to par at the end of four exacting days, but who will cope best in these tough conditions?
We are concentrating on players that are generally accurate off the tee and find greens regularly for their six US Open golf betting tips.
The bunkering. The angles. The greens.

US Open Golf Tips: Hot Straka Can Deliver At Oakmont
Sepp Straka has a fairly miserable US Open record and he has missed the cut in six of his last 14 major appearances, but there is every reason to suspect the Austrian will fare well in Pennsylvania.
Straka recently won his second PGA Tour title of the year at the Truist Championship following his win at The American Express in January.
Top 10s at Pebble Beach, Bay Hill and then Muirfield last time out have helped lift Straka into the world’s top 10, so his form is clearly exceptional.
Other appealing factors about Straka’s chances are that he tops the greens in regulation stats at 71.4% and only three players have better tee-to-green numbers using the Strokes Gained measurement.
Straka is just outside the top for accuracy, too, so he has a lot in his favour ahead of an extremely demanding four days when avoiding the rough will be key to success.
At 35/1 with betting sites, Straka is the first of this week’s US Open golf tips.
US Open Prediction 1: Sepp Straka (Each-Way) - 35/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)

US Open Golf Odds: Lowry Can Banish Oakmont Memories
Shane Lowry was one of only four players to post a sub-par total when Oakmont last hosted the US Open in 2016, finishing on one-under alongside Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy, three shots behind champion Dustin Johnson.
The Irishman led by four shots heading into the final round only for his hopes to be scuppered by a closing 76 after which he admitted "Oakmont will always be the one that got away from me".
Lowry heads to Pittsburgh in great nick, having finished runner-up to Straka in his last visit to Pennsylvania at the Philadelphia Cricket Club and he was also second at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
In total, the Irish Ryder Cup star, playing alongside his pal McIlroy over the first two rounds, has finished inside the top 20 in eight of his 13 tournaments this year.
Admittedly, his appearances in majors were underwhelming; T42 at the Masters and a missed cut at Quail Hollow, but he has finished inside the top 20 in his last two US Opens.
Additionally, only Scheffler has been better from tee-to-green than Lowry this season and he ranks in the top 30 for finding fairways, so he has the skills to limit the damage at Oakmont.
Lowry, like Straka, is also available at 30/1 with betting apps which are offering up to eight places.
US Open Prediction 2: Shane Lowry (Each-Way) - 30/1 With Betfred (Eight Places)
US Open Golf Predictions: Hop On Henley
Russell Henley gave the column a 35/1 winner at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and has a decent each-way chance of landing a maiden major this week at a much bigger price.
The American reached a career-high world ranking of sixth with a fifth-placed finish at the Memorial, although he subsequently dropped a spot after skipping the Canadian Open.
Henley has finished inside the top 10 in half of his 12 tournaments in 2025 and last year he enjoyed his best performance at a US Open, seventh which he followed with fifth at Royal Troon.
That display at Pinehurst was the third time in four US appearances that Henley had posted a top 20 at the US Open, so the signs are encouraging he can compete this week.
Accurate off the tee, Henley is also in the top 10 for greens in regulation and his approach figures are strong too.
It could be a case of ‘steady wins the race’ this week as the USGA continues with its policy of aiming for par as the winning score and at 60/1 with Betfred, Henley looks a contender.
US Open Prediction 3: Russell Henley (Each-Way) - 60/1 With Betfred (Eight Places)
US Open Golf Tips: English Full Of Confidence
Harris English gave us an each-way place at 150/1 for last month’s USPGA Championship when he finished runner-up and although those odds are more than halved for the latest major, he looks worth a whirl.
English has a superb record at the US Open, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last five appearances.
Moreover, he was inside the top 40 when Oakmont last hosted the most difficult of majors in 2016.
English has missed the cut just once in his last 20 majors on American soil and he was 12th at the US Masters in April, so there are plenty of encouraging signs he could go well this week.
The world number 17 ranks well for Total Driving, which measures distance and accuracy combined, and he looks well priced at 55/1 with Bet365.
US Open Prediction 4: Harris English (Each-Way) - 55/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)
(Odds correct at time of publishing: 10am - 12/6/2025)
US Open Golf Betting Tips: Canadian Duo Can Tame Oakmont
Punters looking for outsiders at triple-figure prices could do a lot worse than consider the merits of Taylor Pendrith who recently broke into the world’s top 40 with fifth place at the USPGA Championship.
Two weeks later the Canadian was 12th at the Memorial and then inside the top 30 in his country’s Open.
Excellent from tee-to-green and solid on approach, Pendrith is also fairly accurate at finding fairways (61%).
He was 16th at Pinehurst 12 months ago and catches the eye at 100/1 with Betfred.
Elsewhere, countryman Nick Taylor stands out at 150/1 with Bet365 thanks to an excellent couple of weeks on the PGA Tour (fourth at Muirfield and T13 at TPC Toronto).
His major record is shockingly bad, but he is accurate off the tee and is fifth in the greens in regulation stats which should stand him in good stead at Oakmont.
US Open Prediction 5: Taylor Pendrith (Each-Way) - 100/1 With Betfred (Eight Places)
US Open Prediction 6: Nick Taylor (Each-Way) - 150/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)
(Odds correct at time of publishing: 10am - 12/6/2025)
Those looking at very big odds may consider Victor Perez at 300/1 with Bet365.
The Frenchman recorded his fifth top 20 on the PGA Tour this season with ninth at last week’s Canadian Open where his numbers were pretty much positive across the board.
Accurate and fairly dependable from tee to green, Perez looks a big price.
US Open Prediction 7: Victor Perez (Each-Way) - 300/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)
(Odds correct at time of publishing: 10am - 12/6/2025)
